FAQ
How long have you been paddling?
I started paddling in August of 2021. Hired a coach and trained out of Dana Point
How far do you paddle?
On the weekdays, 8-10 miles, on the weekends 16-20 miles.
Do you fall in?
Occasionally, yes. But much less nowadays!
Where do you paddle?
My backyard is Dana Point. I normally launch out of Doheny beach to avoid the chaos of the harbor. On the weekends I like to venture out to other places such as Oceanside, La Jolla, or north up to Ventura
Do you wear a PFD?
I usually wear a belt based inflatable PFD and I *always* wear a leash. My paddleboard is my primary flotation device.
Have you ever had to call for help?
The closest I’ve come to calling the coast guard was paddling from across the Santa Barbara channel to Santa Cruz Island. However, with a little bit of grit and perseverance I made it across safely.
What kind of camera setup do you use?
I use two cameras: 1.) A Gopro 10 which I generally use a bite mount with for the best POV captures. 2.) A insta360 x3 for the 360 views.
Do you use a drone?
Not yet! I’ve thought about it, but a little weary of bringing such a toy on the water.
Whats the longest distance you've paddled?
On June 8th-9th 2024 I paddled from Tacoma to Port Townsend – a distance of 70 miles!
Are you scared of being bitten by a shark?
I have a healthy respect for sharks but I am not scared of being bitten by them. I genuinely believe a shark would never attack a human intentionally. I feel safe planted on top of my board and when I have the opportunity to paddle with them I try to keep a good my distance, respect the shark’s space, and to not provoke or antagonize them.
